March 8th Thursday 7:00 p.m. Film Night "A Plastic Ocean"
This 2016 documentary by Australian journalist, Craig Leeson, investigates the devastating impacts that plastic has caused to our environment, especially our marine life. With an international team of scientists and researchers he travels to twenty locations around the world to explore the fragile state of our oceans, uncovers alarming truths about plastic pollution and reveals working solutions that can be put into immediate use. Join Save Peninsula Trees if you would like to help green Ocean Beach and contribute to the city's goal of meeting our Climate Action Plan. Meet at 10:00 am at the Ocean Beach Green Center, 4843 B Voltaire St. 92107 for coffee and bagels and a short briefing. We will then go out into our neighborhoods, preselected areas for planting potential or, you may choose your own neighborhood in Ocean Beach if you prefer. You will be provided with information and materials to give to our neighbors about the good news that they can get free trees and free plantings from the city, just by agreeing to water them until they are established. A documentary film about the members of Voices of Our City Choir, which was created for people experiencing homelessness in San Diego. Directed & produced by Susan Polis Schutz, this documentary shows that homeless people are like you and me. They dance, they sing, and have dreams and aspirations. Life is tough on the streets, but hope has come in the form of a homeless chorus. The film chronicles the efforts of two musicians, Nina Deering and Steph Johnson, who founded Voices of Our City Choir, with interviews of the members sharing their stories, their hopes& dreams, and their ideas about solutions to the homeless problem.
