[SDCPJ] Fwd: NEWS ADVISORY: Local Veterans Ask The Public To Stay Home And Not Attend The September Miramar Air Show

Subject: Fwd: NEWS ADVISORY: Local Veterans Ask The Public To Stay Home And Not Attend The September Miramar Air Show

Thursday, August 30
th, 2018,
from
4 PM to 6 PM
will be the
fourth i
n a
series of veteran "bannerings" on the Carroll Canyon I-15 overpass encouraging the public NOT to attend the September Miramar Air Show.

San Diego Veterans For Peace is drawing attention to the Miramar Air Show because it is a highly visible example of the military in San Diego.  We ask that you question why our government continues spend an increasing amount on the military while reducing spending on programs such as health, education, and infrastructure, programs that benefit our citizens.  Our tax dollars can serve us better than by funding war and its implements.

Friends, supporters and the general public are invited to stand with us in support of our concerns about the upcoming airshow.

For more information, to request veteran speakers for your organization, or to obtain interviews with local veterans, please contact USAF Veteran Dave Patterson at 760-207-9139 or at dpatterson998@yahoo.com.

NEWS ADVISORY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCAL VETERANS ASK THE PUBLIC TO STAY HOME AND NOT ATTEND THE SEPTEMBER MIRAMAR AIR SHOW

What:

The San Diego Veterans For Peace, the local chapter of a growing international veterans educational organization, begin their third season of asking the public to stay home from the upcoming September Miramar Air Show and instead to do something wholesome and worthwhile with their kids.

Chapter members and friends will be out of the Carroll Canyon I-15 overpass with banners and flags each week (see below) up to the date of the air show encouraging the public to stay home from this unwholesome, unnecessary, dangerous, and costly event.

When:

For the third consecutive year, local veterans will be on the I-15 Carroll Canyon overpass at the following dates and times:

Thursday, August 30th    4 PM to
6
 PM
Thursday, Sept 6th          4 PM to
6
 PM
Thursday, Sept 13th        4 PM to
6
 PM
Thursday, Sept 20th        4 PM to 6 PM
Thursday, Sept 27th        4 PM to
6
 PM
  (Air Show Weekend)
Friday, Sept 28th             4 PM to 6 PM  (Air Show Weekend)

Who:

Local veterans of all five military services including those who fought in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.  Veterans For Peace is a 501-C-3 veterans educational organization recognized at the United Nations.

Why:

The Miramar Air Show glorifies war with an exciting show of speed, power and noise.  It celebrates the skills and machinery that exist to kill, maim and destroy.  The show is very dangerous .... 10% of all Blue Angel pilots have been killed in shows or accidents.  Miramar jets have already crashed in San Diego neighborhoods.  Lastly, the show is a misleading recruiting tool for our youth and exists to allow defense contractors to showcase and sell their latest tools of death.

We invite the press and public to join us on the I-15 Carroll Canyon overpass at the dates and times listed above.

For more information, to request veteran speakers for your organization, or to obtain interviews with local veterans, please contact USAF Veteran Dave Patterson at 760-207-9139 or at dpatterson998@yahoo.com.

Watch the independent documentary below ("Disneyland of War") to see what is really happening at the Miramar Air Show.

MAMMOTH FALL COLORS BUS TRIP
October 5-7

We will take a chartered bus to Mammoth to enjoy the Fall Color. Our leaders are putting together an interesting variety of outings. Mammoth offers an abundance of hiking opportunities, nature trails and amenities such as shuttle service, markets, shops, galleries, restaurants and breweries. Each day the bus will drive to the areas with the best color and you will have an option to go on a walk or a hike with Sierra Club leaders who will talk about the geology and biology of the area. You will have the option of a slow, easier hike (about 3-5 miles maximum) or a longer, more moderately-paced hike. Or you can stay behind in Mammoth Lakes and plan your own day.

The price includes bus transportation and two-nights lodging in shared condos in Mammoth Lakes. Condos have two bedrooms, each with a king or queen bed, a loft with four single beds, kitchen and two or three baths. The condos are located near a shopping center and near the shuttle stop. No meals are provided.
