[SDCPJ] Important Copenhagen Climate Change Summit coverage

Much is happening on this important issue, yet the U.S. media is not
covering the Climate Summit well at all.

Please check out Democracy Now www.democracynow.org

Another good source is the organization www.350.org They have daily
summaries and great pictures of demonstrations, etc. (The 350 in their
name stands for the 350 parts per million is what many scientists,
climate experts, and progressive national governments are now saying is
the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere.)

[SDCPJ] Year correction: Creating a Culture of Peace Workshop March 2010

This is a re-send.  Correct dates is March 10-13 2010

Creating a Culture of Peace - - -

Nonviolence Training for Personal and Social Change

Basic Training in San Diego, Mar 10-13, 2010

Creating a Culture of Peace (CCP) is a nationwide nonviolence training program for community peacemaking that includes local follow-up projects. In February 2009, 30 local peacemakers completed CCP Basic Training in San Diego.

The goal of one follow-up project that came out of the San Diego CCP Basic Training is to create a San Diego CCP community including trained local facilitators.  A CCP Facilitator Training is planned for fall 2010 in San Diego.  Basic Training is a pre-requisite to Facilitator Training and becoming a CCP Trainer.

CCP is an incubator for communities to raise issues of concern and plan action projects that effect change.  It is founded on the nonviolence principles of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks and Dorothy Day.

CCP training analyzes social change and builds practical skills to address injustice and violence without resorting to violence.  Its experiential and popular education approach draws out the wisdom, knowledge and experience of participants. This is the kind of training which so effectively prepared civil rights and labor activists.

CCP emphasizes two forms of nonviolence.  Constructive Nonviolence involves creating the alternative culture we desire by developing new relationships, new practices, and new institutions.  Nonviolent Resistance involves tactics designed to protest, and even to interfere with, injustice and oppression.

Our CCP Basic Training is scheduled for March 10-13, 2010  [Details: 5:30-9:00 pm 3 evenings, Weds Mar 10; Thurs Mar 11; Fri Mar12; and 8:30 am – 9:00 pm All Day Saturday Mar 13] Cost is $100.  Sliding scale and scholarships are available.

Local co-sponsors are Peace Resource Center (PRC) of San Diego, United African American Ministerial Action Council (UAAMAC), and Veterans for Peace, San Diego.  Host is UAAMAC, 4981 Market St, San Diego.

For more information about the CCP Basic Training or becoming a CCP Facilitator contact Carroll Boone, carrollboone@gmail.com, 619-697-3223.  www.creatingacultureofpeace.org .

[SDCPJ] Ground Zero Players needs you!

Food and Supply Drive Now through January 9

The Animal Defense Team (ADT)  of Ground Zero Players is gathering donations for homeless pets (primarily dogs) and their human companions who are living on the streets of downtown San Diego. Can you help?

Suggestions:
For dogs: food, bedding, collars, leashes, treats, dog sweaters
For humans: socks, nonperishable food, water, toiletries, blankets, sleeping bags, tarps, coats, raingear, gloves, hats

San Diego Pet Supply, 1490 Island Ave., downtown, 619-263-2211, has generously agreed to let you drop off donations there during business hours. Or contact us directly at keafs2@yahoo.com or groundzeroplayers@yahoo...com

The SD Police Department has conducted recent raids of downtown homeless, allegedly seizing personal possessions including treasured family photos, prescription medicines and blankets. As of now, the ACLU has put their lawsuit against the city for this action on hold, pending talks with the City Attorney. The city has maintained they will not destroy the property until after negotiations with the ACLU.

It is winter. It is raining. People and animals are suffering as you read this.

The National Coalition on the Homeless says 5 - 20% of homeless people have pets, mostly dogs. Some owned them before they became homeless. Others have adopted strays along the way. The vast majority of shelters do not accept pets, which forces folks to choose between shelter and abandoning their dogs. With the current economy, we can all imagine a time when this could be any one of us. What would you do?

Together, we can make a real difference. Please help.

"Jesus, Mary and Joseph: Presente!"

“Jesús, María, y José: ¡Presente!”

La Tradicional Posada

¡Bienvenidos!

The Posada Tradition

Welcome! All the world's great religions recognize hospitality for the stranger as a sign of mature faith. La Posada is a re-enactment of the Bible story of Mary and Joseph who, while sojourners in Bethlehem, were forced to seek shelter on the night of Jesus' birth. It is a venerated Christmas tradition across the Americas. In our time,  when the idea of welcoming the stranger -- and immigrants themselves -- are so much under attack, our binational celebration takes on added significance. At the 16th annual La Posada Without Borders, we join with our friends from Tijuana as brothers and sisters in one human family. All are welcome.

Join us as we gather on both sides of the border again this year at Border Field State Park to celebrate hope, hospitality and unity.  In the contemporary practice of the Mexican church, we celebrate hospitality with a party as there was no room in the inn for Jesus.  In the ancient practice of the Church (Works of Mercy), we specifically take time to mourn for those who have died crossing the border.  See below for more details.

This year's theme for La Posada Sin Fronteras is "Jesus, Mary and Joseph: Presente!"  We will sing, hear guest speakers and celebrate the reconciliation that God brings to the world through Christ’s birth, even in the face of false borders that separate us.

Join us from 3pm-dark at Border Field State Park on Sunday, Dec.13. (Bring ID'S as Migra will be there !)

If it rains our posada coalition may move event indoors to a nearby church  www.borderangels.org
