[SDCPJ] Pakistan - and Sunday

October 6-7, there is a momentous grassroots demonstration and convoy/march from Islamabad to Waziristan, Pakistan, against the US drone war.  Pakistanis know that the US Afghanistan war, exported to Pakistan, has destabilized their government and society.  The drone war has created far more enemies to the US than the "enemies" it has killed, and has killed far more innocent civilians than the US military will acknowledge.  "(An American) study released last month by Stanford Law School and New York University's School of Law said the drone attacks have killed far more people than the United States acknowledges, traumatized innocent residents and been largely ineffective. Civilians account for a significant portion of those killed, the study said." (http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/06/world/asia/drone-protest-march/index.html)

This comes on the heels of weeks of anti-US protests at US embassies across the world; ostensibly triggered by a crude and racist film and trailer insulting Islam.  While the film was a trigger, the animosity and hatred it tapped into is rooted in decades of war, exploitation, corruption and racism from the US and US interests in Islamic nations.

Dreams of empire always end in disaster, with the realization that empire is childish.  Its human tragedy is irreversible, but what is reversible is the continued policy of perpetual war, empire and corrupting corporate profit from war.  The sooner the US turns away from this policy, the sooner we can build a society and economy aimed at uplifting humanity, not killing and dominating humans.

This is the message behind San Diego grassroots demonstrations and events this weekend.  On Sunday, Oct. 7 San Diego Veterans for Peace and the San Diego Coalition for Peace & Justice join Occupy San Diego to demonstrate.  Join if you can; if you can't, do what you can do to help change US policy and actions.
