Gore Vidal is the author of 25 novels, 6 plays, many screenplays, more than 200 essays and the critically acclaimed memoir, Palimpsest.

Vidal's United States: Essays 1952-1992 won the 1993 National Book Award.
Gore Vidal was born in 1925, the scion of a prominent political family.
He is an outspoken critic of the American Political Establishment, he's a noted wit and social critic.
Mr Vidal has worked tirelessly for peace and justice. He is Al Gore's cousin and Jimmy Carter's 5th cousin.
