Please come for a conversation with Lane Van Ham about his book

A Common Humanity:

Ritual, Religion, and Immigrant Advocacy in Tucson, Arizona

released recently by the University of Arizona Press.

We'll have Q&A time after Lane presents a few themes and stories from his book.  His continuing work on the great creativity and innovation happening on the borders, along with the border's impacts in our region, will make for an interesting evening together. Lane talks about how the borders are spaces where we innovate who we see ourselves being as both citizens of a country and of the world, plus what it means to be truly human amid dynamics of borders. Beyond the issue of how borders test who we are, his book deals with how the impacts of globalization, economics, and the dynamics of business, religion, and family push toward trans-national structures. The importance of ritual, religious language, love of country, love of humans — all come into play — as do the need for jobs, livelihoods with dignity, family, healthy bioregions, and 1st and 3rd World economies.
