San Diego to host 30th Annual Convention of the Veterans For Peace
 
From August 5th through 9th, 2015, San Diego will be playing host to the 30th Annual National Convention of the Veterans For Peace, a national veteran's educational organization, dedicated to the cause of world peace by applying the concept of engaging conflict peacefully, without violence.  The theme of the convention is "Peace and Reconciliation in the Pacific", and will feature Seymour Hersh, noted investigative reporter, as the keynote speaker on Saturday night, August 8th.   All events are open to the public, but registration is required (http://vfpnationalconvention.org/).
 
The recently restored 1958 peace boat "The Golden Rule" will sail into San Diego Bay and will be present during the entire convention.   (http://www.veteransforpeace.org/our-work/vfp-national-projects/golden-rule-boat-project/).
 
Major events include the showing of the film "Pictures from a Hiroshima School Yard" (Wednesday night), the Opening Plenary and welcome at 9 AM on Thursday, the off-site Community Event at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego entitled "Peace at Home, Peace Abroad" on Thursday night, keynote address on Saturday night by Seymour Hersh, noted investigative journalist, and an International Reconciliation Ceremony on Sunday morning at the Joan Kroc Peace Center at the University of San Diego.

300-500 veterans and associate members of the Veterans For Peace, from over 100 chapters in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Vietnam.

Why:
 
The national Veterans For Peace organization holds an annual convention each year in a different city, bringing together 300-500 veterans and associate members and their friends and families, for 5 days of socializing, networking, workshops, plenary sessions and a Saturday night banquet.  This is the first time that the local San Diego chapter has been honored to host the annual convention.   In addition to activities at the Town and Country Resort and Hotel, convention guests will be attending a variety of related events around San Diego, based on the theme of "Peace and Reconciliation in the Pacific".
 
The press is encouraged to attend.
