[SDCPJ] Upcoming San Diego actions against police brutality and state corruption

FEBRUARY 27, 2015 at 12:30pm

Press Conference to support Aaron Harvey

 220 W. Broadway, San Diego

FB event People's Coalition Against 182.5 https://www.facebook.com/events/658930250897165

For those of you coming to the Courthouse tomorrow, please note that we will be using #RepealProp21 as our hashtag. Please use this on twitter and FB when posting photos/videos from the action tomorrow. Thank you!

My name is Aaron Harvey. I am a 26 yr old African American male who has grown up in the Lincoln Park community of San Diego for the majority of my life. Both sides of my family have not only lived in this community since the mid 50's but also on the same street. My parents have been together since they were 14 and I am the youngest of 5 children. I was taught to be a hard worker, and for the last 7 years I have held multiple jobs ranging from being an EMT to managing a restaurant to working for the Department of Transportation, all while also pursuing my education. I am now living in Nevada studying to become a real estate agent. I have no criminal record but have just spent the last seven months in county jail under Penal Code (PC) 182.5 on a $1.1 million bail; I am being held to answer to 9 counts of shootings. This PC was voted in under Prop. 21 in the year 2000, but has never been used before anywhere in the state. It states that if the police have you documented as a gang member then you can be charged with the crimes allegedly committed by the gang without having any knowledge that these crimes were ever committed.

The police department has unjustly documented me as a gang member based on a series of stops that were either in front of my home or within a quarter mile of my residence. No crimes were ever being committed to warrant these stops or traffic violations - merely just being outside in the neighborhood I grew up in. Even the District Attorney has openly admitted in court that they know I played no part in these crimes, and are pretty much sure that I didn't even have knowledge of them, but because they have me documented as a gang member I can be, and will be, held liable for the crimes committed. As of now I am looking at life in prison if convicted. My purpose for this letter is not just to spread the word about my case, but also to assist in helping people become aware of PC 182.5 under prop. 21. If the DA wins this case, not only will mine and the 33 other defendants’ lives change forever, but also the lives of every other young person who has been falsely documented as a gang member. Right now they're targeting the black communities but soon they will target all communities of color. If we don’t stand up together to stop this, there is no way of knowing how many citizens will be wrongfully charged under this Penal Code.

My next court hearing is this Friday, February 27th at 1:30pm where a Judge will be assigned to review the 995 motions presented by my defense arguing the case is unconstitutional and should be dismissed. I am asking that you would come and join me at my hearing on Friday, February 27th. Your support there would be highly appreciated and will help bring awareness of this law that is taking place in our city. We will meet at 12:30 outside the courthouse at 220 W Broadway. Our united presence is the only way to demonstrate that the community is united against the injustices within these proceedings. Thank you very much for your time.

SAN DIEGO PRESENTE LA SOLIDARIDAD CON LAS FAMILIAS DE AYOTZINAPA:
February 26th marks the 5 month anniversary of the forced disappearance of our 43 students. We are marching not only to honor and stand with the families and mothers of our missing students, but to honor the fallen human rights activist Gustavo Salgado, unjustly killed by the same narcogovernment. They continue to lie to the faces of the families about the identification of remains and have still not provided a single cohesive answer. We are standing with the families in solidarity, that we do not believe the lies either, we know the truth that it was the STATE. We are marching for JUSTICE, for TRUTH, because we want them back alive! IF NBC WON'T PUT AYOTZINAPA IN THE NEWS, WE WILL MAKE THEM PUT AYOTZINAPA IN THE NEWS. As things get progressively worse, we are officially stating that we are also marching in support of the students of BUAP as well. all people young and old are essential for an effective movement towards a mexican spring. the people will not be silenced and we will not back down!

Justice for Victor FB Page:

These #SDSTOLENLIVES demonstrations will be planned once per month
Adapted by Stolen Lives Project, Stolen Lives Illustrated Project (SLIP)

The mission of UAPTSD's mobilizations is to keep alive the county list of recorded people killed by law enforcement agents from 1980 to the present. Through grassroots efforts, over 200 local cases were documented.
http://uaptsd.org/victims/victims-murdered-by-sd-law-enforcement/

Although just the tip of the iceberg, these 200+ LOCAL cases are evidence of a horrifying national epidemic of police terror. The victims of police violence were part of our society, but rarely are their lives or names publicized, or the real circumstances surrounding their deaths investigated and made known. The Stolen Lives Project aims to restore some dignity to the lives lost. Though their lives have been stolen from us, we will not allow them to be forgotten.

****************************************************

Starting on March 11th at 7pm at the Activist Center at 4246 Wightman Street, San Diego, CA 92105 Please join uaptsd.org as we implement the leg work with allies both in San Diego and statewide for change in the fight against police terror and to create a safe space for victim support.

These meetings will take place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month and will work in conjunction with the coalition meetings on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month.

We are working on hashing out the following campaign drafts, community and organizational input is requested.

  • Statewide Campaign Against the Police Officer's Bill Of Rights
  • Repurposing funds from law enforcement agencies
  • Prisoner Support and divestment strategies with CURB, (Californians United for a Responsible Budget)
  • Advocacy for Individuals with Disabilities
  • Justice Statewide for #Stolenlives by every branch of Law Enforcement http://uaptsd.org/victims/victims-murdered-by-sd-law-enforcement/
  • Media, Propaganda Design and Fundraising for Legal Defense
  • Aligning these demands with the vision of the Black Lives Matter Movement blacklivesmatter.com/ferguson/

We will also provide victim advocacy and support for survivors

Remember to connect what's happening at a national level is also happening in San Diego, The same issues that were exposed in Ferguson are in San Diego. The system of power, White Supremacy, is well and alive in San Diego, hurting marginalized communities. Let's make sure we seek justice for them. Let's end the occupation of our communities by Police.
