International Day of Peace -- September 21, 2012
Each year on September 21, the United Nations invites all nations and people to honor a cessation of hostilities and commemorate the the International Day of Peace through education and public awareness on issues related to peace. In the quest for peace, the Universal Peace Federation and its Ambassadors for Peace around the world organize commemorations of the International Day of Peace each year. We hope that you will be able to take part in one of the local Day of Peace activities below and/or spend some time on September 21st thinking about how we can make every day a day of peace.
San Diego Events:
Peace Fair 4-6pm: Booths, Musical Performances, Food, Meet your Elected Officials
Interfaith Vigil 6-7pm: Peace from different faith perspectives: Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Quaker, Muslim, and others. At the conclusion of the interfaith sharing and prayer time, we will have a candle lighting ceremony and singing together. The Peace Day Steering Committee includes: Cherokee Point Elementary, First Church of the Brethren, National Conflict Resolution Center, Peace Resource Center of San Diego, San Diego Friends Meeting (Quakers), San Diego Police Department, Wellness & Restorative Practice Partnership, Unity Church, and more!
