Sorry for late notice but we just found out about this:
On April 1 of this year, The Rule of Law ceased to exist in the US. On that day, Homeland Defense Secretary Michael Chertoff signed a waiver that exempted his agency from "all federal, state, or other laws, regulations and legal requirements" that interfered with the construction of the Triple Border Fence. Over 200 years of legislative history were nullified with a pen stroke; the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, NEPA, even the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, along with 30 other environmental and worker safety laws, were voided by the Executive Branch.
This waiver also set the stage for Blackwater and other contractors to militarize and patrol the Border. The completed fence will feature high-tech surveillance equipment and a high-speed access corridor which can be easily patrolled by a cadre of paramilitaries. Alarmingly, it's still unclear if the Rule of Law will recommence upon the fence's completion. A 100-500 foot zone may have been created along the entire length of the Border where laws passed by the Legislature will no longer apply. You've heard of Free Trade Zones along the Border, how about Constitution Free Zones?
Please join us tomorrow at Duncan Hunter's office to show him, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the Department of Homeland Security that San Diegans won't tolerate this militarization of our Nation's Southern Border.

To compound the destruction of border lands, such as the filling in of Smuggler's Gulch near San Diego with over 2 million cubic yards of earth, endangering the Tijuana river estuary, and the destruction of more than 5,000 human lives as crossers are diverted into the desert to get around the wall, further construction will compound our nation's economic hardships and national debt. DHS has already spent $2.7 billion to build border walls, and now they say that they need another $400 million or construction will stop. It is obscene to spend so much money to do so much damage, when the wall has been shown to have so little impact on the number of undocumented immigrants who reside in the United States. Duncan Hunter should stop filming campaign adds alongside the wall and instead take a cold hard look at the monstrosity that he lkes to take credit for.
