We will be protesting outside of an industry conference at the hotel, “Unmanned Aircraft Systems West” featuring 25 top experts from the military and military industry at the Sheraton Hotel and sponsored by the Association of Naval Aviation.

The President’s latest defense budget will allocate funds for more unmanned aerial vehicles (aka DRONES).  These deadly weapons, the Predator and Reapers, generally cost $4 million to $12 million each and are built here in San Diego by General Atomics and Northrop Grumman!

We may never know how many civilians have died as a result of U.S. drone strikes in Pakistan and Afghanistan, but there are estimates of hundreds or thousands of innocent bystanders who have died in the attacks.  With the increase of drone strikes, the Pakistani authorities released statistics earlier in the year indicating that between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009, U.S. Predator and Reaper drone strikes have killed over 700 innocent civilians.  The International News reported that January 2010 proved to be a deadly month in Pakistan with 123 civilians killed.

$4-12 million for each drone + hundreds, thousands of dead civilians = too much!  Join us on March 2!

Justice is Love Demonstrated in Public: Where is the Love?

The dirty tricks are paying off. One has to admire the unity of the Republican Party. Now, an agenda to repair the country and recover from the disaster of the Bush Administration seems doomed.

Conservatives are more interested in Obama’s birth certificate and not that of the heads of lending institutions in China who really own their homes and businesses as part of a corrupt system of Capitalism that simply does not work.

The ignorant factions of both parties seem to be happy with 3% of the population controlling more than 90% of the wealth. Wealth redistribution advocates are labeled socialists and communists for pointing out how unfair this system is.

Justice is love demonstrated publicly. What kind of public love is being demonstrated to the impoverished in America?

The answer is the same that was given to Native Americans, African slaves, indentured servants and immigrants – from Italy, Africa, Latin America, Haiti and Asia…to name a few….injustice.

This country was built on murder, greed, lies and injustice from inception.

War, crooked bankers and a senseless corporate system render the American citizen powerless. Many erroneously believe that they are actually free. The corporate banking system makes companies more loyal to stock holders than the loyal workers that build them. So…these workers become a liability to the companies. They are laid off and their jobs sent overseas to lower paid slaves. They lose their health insurance that is tied to their jobs and spiral into poverty while politicians “discuss” the virtues of public health options. They are told that this country cannot afford public health insurance while spending on weapons has no limit.

Meanwhile the flawed American main stream thinking rolls on. People have the freedom to believe in whatever religion that they want to …as long as it is Judeo-Christian.

Nations have the right to sovereignty as long as they give up their natural resources and allow U.S. military bases.

Countries are allowed to have “freedom” as long as the western corporate powers are allowed free reign in controlling their commerce; allowed to enslave their populace. The schizophrenic policies continue as we cannot trade with Cuba because they are communist yet, the Communist Chinese can make everything in our homes…. and poison our infants with lead.

Wars and rumors of wars; who will be next: Yemen, Iran, Venezuela? Who will be next to be labeled a mad man, crazy, insurgent, terrorist, militant, guerilla for standing up to the United States?

America needs tools of mass creation not weapons of mass destruction. When the American people wake up, there will be rebellion. It will take violence to change this unjust system. Reasonable voices are being drowned out by nationalistic fervor.
Reviewing the history of the French, Romans, Haitians, Moors, Persians, the American Revolution and Civil War….one can see that history’s lessons have still not been learned.

[SDCPJ] What's in the President's Budget for nuclear weapons?

Dear Carol, The Fiscal Year 2011 budget has a 10% increase for nuclear weapons programs, bringing total funding to about $7 billion. I wanted to share with you a roundup of some excellent analysis of the budget by groups in the disarmament community. At the end of the email are two announcements about activities around the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference and the Kansas City Plant. Analysis of the Fiscal Year 2011 Budget Request Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation "Proposed DoE funding also includes large increases for a facility that will expand plutonium production in Los Alamos, New Mexico and for a new highly enriched uranium production facility near Oak Ridge, Tennessee, each estimated to cost about $3 billion. The Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Replacement Project (CMRR) plutonium facility at Los Alamos National Laboratory increased from $97 million in FY 2010 to $225 million in FY 2011. Y-12's Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) also increased to $115 million from $94 million in FY 2010." As shown in our latest video, Ambassador Eikenberry is a retired general who previously led the U.S. military effort in Afghanistan. In his cables, Eikenberry stated that "the proposed troop increase will bring vastly increased costs and an indefinite, large-scale U.S. military role in Afghanistan...in a mission that most agree cannot be won solely by military means." The White House ignored Eikenberry's warnings and sent troops anyway. Sign our Act.ly petition urging House Armed Services Committee Members to to read the Eikenberry cables. Today, House Armed Services Committee (HASC) members are meeting to begin writing a 2011 budget for the Afghanistan war. It's absolutely essential that they read the Eikenberry memos before they authorize more troops and funds for a war that will cost the U.S. a fortune when we can least afford it and that is not making us safer. Let's make sure HASC members hear Eikenberry's warning before they compound the mistake of sending more troops into a bloody, expensive war in Afghanistan. Community Coalition Monthly Technology Training

Our monthly technology class is designed to help activists develop technical skills germane to effective use of media.

Topics are driven by groups attending. I have received many requests for social network training and digital movie/photo editing training. These will be the topics.

Learn about Facebook, Twitter, Delicious, Meetup, Blogger, Myspace, BLIP.TV, WEBCONFERENCING and TELECONFERENCING.

Bring your laptops, use computers at the center or follow along by viewing the projected images on a screen.

Training will begin at 10:00 AM and end at 2:00 PM.

Light refreshments will be provided; It is important to RSVP in advance for planning.

Jovan Jackson, Victim of Collateral Estoppel & Discriminatory Prosecution

Jovan Jackson, Victim of Collateral Estoppel & Discriminatory Prosecution By: Eugene Davidovich   Jovan Jackson of Answerdam Collective is a medical cannabis patient, navy veteran, and victim of two Operation Green Rx raids, part of District Attorney (DA) Bonnie Dumanis' effort to overturn Proposition 215 and eradicate safe access to medical cannabis in San Diego. The first raid on Answerdam occurred in August of 2008, the second on September 9, 2009, the same day that over a dozen other collectives were raided in San Diego. In December of 2009, Mr. Jackson was tried on charges related to the August, 2008 raid, and the issue went in front of a jury. All five medical marijuana counts were unanimously tossed out by the jurors. Charges related to the 9/9/9 raid however, have not yet been litigated. Most in San Diego, as well as around the state that followed Jackson's trial were certain the DA would not continue with the prosecution. Dumanis' office however, maintains they intend to proceed with their full prosecutorial might.   Much like the first trial, Jackson intends to fight vehemently against these charges and on February 8th 2009 at his preliminary hearing for the second trial, Lance Rogers Attorney for Jackson, will argue a motion to dismiss the case based on prosecutorial discrimination; otherwise known as a Murgia Motion.  The defense is claiming that Jackson has been deliberately singled out for prosecution on the basis of his race.  Jackson argues that the Cross Jurisdictional Narcotics Task Force (NTF) has been investigating Mr. Jackson for two years and as the motion describes, "at least ten (10) non-black suspects actively involved in the possession, sales, distribution, and transportation of marijuana" were also investigated, yet no charges were brought forward nor any other suspects prosecuted. The motion goes on to read "When Answerdam was raided in 2008 and 2009, non-black individuals were detained at the scene. However, only the black members were arrested and prosecuted. Law enforcement obtained detailed registries listing all 1,649 members of Answerdam. The only persons charged by the DA's office are black males". The defense argues that in addition to the prosecutorial discrimination, the DA's office investigations and prosecutions of medical marijuana patients are discriminatory by design. Whereas over a dozen other medical marijuana collectives were raided on 9/9/9, of those arrested, only two individuals have been prosecuted in State Court. The motion reads "The District Attorney's Office has offered no explanation as to why these two black men are the only persons currently being prosecuted". Will the judge find racism and discrimination in the DA's office / NTF? On the 11th of February at another hearing, Jackson's attorney will argue Colleteral Estoppel; also known as 'Double Jeopardy'. That day, the court will be asked to consider that a "later prosecution will necessarily entail a grossly absurd and unjust result", as Mr. Jackson has already been vindicated of all charges related to operating a legal medical marijuana collective. Finally, on the 19th of February, Mr. Jackson will go to court for the third time this month to argue a Return of Property Motion. The defense will request the judge to order the return of all property stolen from Answerdam Collective by the NTF at during the August, 2008 raid. Many thousands of concerned citizens in San Diego are hoping the Judge will see through the vindictive prosecutorial discrimination as well as the collateral estoppels brought on Mr. Jackson and dismiss the second case against him, as well as return the stolen property. It is an outrage that Mr. Jackson faces a second trial while some white victims of the September 9th 2009 raids are receiving orders from judges to get their stolen property back. I caught up with Mr. Jackson a couple weeks ago at Answerdam Collective where he said "DA Dumanis and her team of lawyers and narcotics officers seem to be dedicated to overturning state law, but I will fight as long as it takes for both mine and Answerdam Collective member's rights". Thousands of dollars are being spent on vindictive, prejudicial prosecutions, that are politically motivated. Will Bonnie Dumanis learn to respect state law, or will the jury have to convince her multiple times that the prosecutions need to end?
