Post-2015 Agenda Civic Consultation Conference – INFORMATION & OBJECTIVE
14 & 15 November 2014 – Civic (Public) Consultation
On Post-2015 Development Agenda (San Diego, USA)
- UNA-USA San Diego's Public Consultation will be held at La Jolla Community Center, California on November 14 & 15, 2014 -
The San Diego Chapter of the United Nations Association is proud to host its first Civic (Public) Consultation on the United Nations'Post-2015 Agenda that seeks to engage the public on global issues: inequalities, health, education, growth and employment, environmental sustainability, governance, conflict and fragility, population dynamics, hunger, food and nutrient security, energy and water. Similar events have been taken place and continue to being held in many cities around the world.
This major civil society gathering is the first of its kind in San Diego offering a platform for local civil society, private sector, academia and activists to provide input and engage on development issues that most impact their lives. The conference provides an opportunity to ensure that the views and contributions of our local civil society feed into the United Nations' Post-2015 Agenda and subsequent global framework which will be finalized in September 2015 at the UN in New York City.
During the conference, participants will learn about the United Nations' eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) with its respective seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Four (4) thematic breakout sessions will enable individuals to discuss their views on policy frameworks and inclusion specifically related to:
- Health – Facilitator: Dr. Anita Raj (click here for bio);
- Education – Facilitator: Dr. Alan J. Daly (click here for bio);
- Environmental Sustainability - Facilitator: Congressman Scott Peters (click here for bio);
- Sustainable Solutions – The Role of Women - Facilitator: Kim Langbecker (click here for bio).
The discussions and findings resulting from the conference will be compiled in a comprehensive report – comprised of our shared recommendations – and put forward to the U.S. Department and the U.S. Mission to the United Nations for consideration in finalizing the 2015-Agenda in September 2015 at the United Nations General Assembly.
