[SDCPJ] Harvest of Loneliness screens on PBS stations around the country this fall

This labor day season, many PBS stations are screening a documentary that sheds light on the current debate over immigration reform and the use of "guest workers" in American agriculture. "Harvest of Loneliness" has received positive reviews at film festivals and screenings worldwide, earning the Cinelatino Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary at the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival in 2010 and the Best Educational Film Award at the Amsterdam Film Festival in 2011.  Produced by Gilbert Gonzalez, Professor Emeritus of Chicana/o Studies at UC Irvine, and co-directed by Vivian Price, Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies and Labor Studies at CSU Dominguez Hills, Harvest of Loneliness examines what was known as the Bracero Program-a system put in place from 1942 to 1964 to undermine union organizing by recruiting Mexican farm laborers for temporary work in the United States. The film presents extraordinary archival footage and features family members and surviving braceros who typically went north expecting not just good wages but also humane treatment and working conditions-expectations that were rarely met.   http://harvestofloneliness.com

The film is showing in many PBS stations around the country in September and October. Check your local listings, but here are the ones we've heard about so far.
