August Events From the Ocean Beach Green Center

Ocean Beach Green Center, 4862 Voltaire Street, Ocean Beach 92107   oceanbeachgreencenter@gmail.com

Dear Friends of the Ocean Beach Green Center

In the last year we have periodically talked about our friend and mentor, Jim Bell, who graciously provided a new home for the Ocean Beach Green Center. Jim peacefully passed away this morning at his home.  We had a party for him at his home and the Green Center's home several weeks ago.

For those of you who didn't know Jim, he was a great visionary and a dedicated environmentalist who had been talking about sustainability for over 40 years. You can check out his work at http://www.jimbell.com/

We, at the Green Center, will try to continue his legacy by supporting and promoting his vision of making the San Diego/ Tijuana bioregion energy, water and food self-sufficient.

A big thanks goes to Dustin, Jim's friend, who got Jim home and saved his house from development. Thank you also for all the wonderful caregivers Jim had, especially Laura.  We will have another celebration of his life in a couple of weeks.  If you would like to be notified please email us at oceanbeachgreencenter@gmail.com

August 8th Thursday 7 pm  Film Night "Independent America: The Two Lane Search for Mom & Pop" This 2005 documentary follows Hanson Hosein (former NBC journalist) and his wife, Heather Hughes (NBC News) as they hit the road and travel 13 thousand miles through 32 states in search of Independent America. They do it all while abiding by two simple rules of the road: 1) No Interstates: They can only travel on secondary highways and country roads 2) They can only do business with Mom & Pop. No McDonalds, No Best Westerns. No Wal-Marts. The documentary feature uncovers the growing discontent with big box, corporate America. The filmmakers capture pockets of resistance across the country, which adds up to a nationwide opposition.
 Free of charge
