Golden Rule Peace Boat Arrives in San Diego
Historic Sailboat Supports UN Treaty to Ban Nuclear Weapons
The historic Golden Rule anti-nuclear sailboat will arrive in San Diego on Tuesday September 12th to promote the UN Treaty to Ban Nuclear Weapons.
In 1958, four Quaker peace activists attempted to sail the Golden Rule, a 38' ketch, from Los Angeles to the Marshall Islands to interfere with U.S. atmospheric nuclear bomb testing.
Now a project of Veterans For Peace, the Golden Rule spent the summer sailing throughout California to support the recently approved United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. The treaty has been overwhelmingly approved by the UN General Assembly, despite opposition from the U.S. and other nuclear powers.
