The Rotary Club of Mission Bay and the Pacific Beach Middle International Baccalaureate World School have formed a Community - School Partnership that supports the values of Rotary and the mission of Pacific Beach Middle IB World School to solve real-life problems and create a healthy peaceful world. The project, which began this summer with the Rotary Club of Mission Bay helping to prepare the school's garden for the school year, will culminate in an "International Peace Pole" Planting in the school garden.
The International Peace Pole will be unveiled in the award-winning school garden and will designate a zone of peace and a safe refuge encouraging the giving and receiving of kindness. Students and staff have designed pinwheels with statements about kindness, compassion, and peace, which will be displayed around the garden.
This is a public event, held in conjunction with a "School Open House" and visitors are welcome to attend and share in the thrill of the unveiling of the 6' PB Middle School Peace Pole on which "May Peace Prevail on Earth" has been etched in four different languages. Peace Poles are one of the most recognized symbols of peace worldwide with more than 240,000 standing across the globe.
The community gathering will begin at 5:30pm. The Peace Pole dedication ceremony will commence at 5:45 pm with statements by the School Principal Ernie Remillard, President of Mission Bay Rotary Dr. Michael McQuary, and San Diego Unified School District’s Board President Kevin Beiser. The Peace Pole will be dedicated in honor or George Gerrodette, member of the Mission Bay Rotary and from whose Mission Bay Rotary Foundation Account the project was funded.
The Rotary Club of Mission Bay hopes you can join with us as we share this moment with the students, families, staff, and community of the Pacific Beach Middle IB World School.
