Pinkwashing: The promotion of the gay-friendliness of a corporate or political entity in an attempt to downplay or divert attention from human rights abuses.

For more on pinkwashing, read here: http://ow.ly/kt8LB

This event is in recognition of Nakba Day, May 15. Nakba Day or Day of the Catastrophe is the annual day of remembrance of the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people from their land that followed the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948. Nakba Day is also a day to recognize this ongoing injustice and the ongoing struggle of the Palestinian people to resist the Israeli government policies of occupation and apartheid and to fight for the right of return for Palestinian refugees.

In solidarity with Palestinians living under brutal occupation, Canvass for a Cause calls on LGBT individuals and our allies to resist the pinkwashing of Israeli apartheid and join us for a presentation on the conflict & our community.

Speakers:

Sara Giordano is a member of the International Jewsih Anti-Zionist Network, an organizer with the San Diego Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement, and has been involved in queer, feminist, & anti-racism organizing for the past decade.

Nasser Barghouti is on the board of directors of the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties, the president of the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee of San Diego, and an organizer with the San Diego Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement.
