Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice Theatre PLACAS: The Most Dangerous Tattoo is a documentary play that depicts one family's struggle to overcome a history of violence.  It features the experience of a man who fled the civil war in El Salvador as a child only to find himself caught in the gang wars of California. This transformative story of redemption centers on his determination to reunite his family after surviving war, immigration, deportation, prison and street violence. Join us for a live excerpt of the play, followed by a discussion with a panel of experts, including: Paul S. Flores, a published poet, performance artist and the playwright of PLACAS. Alex Sanchez, co-founder and director of Homies Unidos, an organization that develops and implements violence prevention and intervention programs. The documentary play PLACAS is based on his life. Jerry Tello, founder of the National Compadres Network and an international leader on community resilience and healing. A TOP-SECRET U.S. intelligence document obtained by The Interceptconfirms that the sprawling U.S. military base in Ramstein, Germany serves as the high-tech heart of America's drone program. Ramstein is the site of a satellite relay station that enables drone operators in the American Southwest to communicate with their remote aircraft in Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan and other targeted countries. The top-secret slide deck, dated July 2012, provides the most detailed blueprint seen to date of the technical architecture used to conduct strikes with Predator and Reaper drones.

Event: Paint the CHE!

Thursday, 4/16/15, 10 AM-3PM

International Renowned Chicano Artist Mario Torero 

 

The occupation of the CHE has been ongoing since Tuesday March 24^th.  No law enforcement have shown up to evict occupants from the building.  We invite the press to attend and document Paint the CHE.

 

Mario Torero will be returning to the CHE Café to retouch his murals, including that of activist, Cesar Chavez.  In addition this event invites students and community members to fill in one of the unpainted walls of the CHE with their own works. 

 

Mario Torero participated in grassroots Chicano movements at the UCSD campus and is the artist behind the Peterson Chicano Mural.  The CHE has long been an oasis of free expression in the midst of University censure.  Paint the CHE recognizes Mario’s contributions and invites others to assist him and express themselves creatively.
