"Organizing against the Vietnam War was a critical turning point in my life as it was for hundreds of thousands even millions who got involved. I resisted the draft, organized on campus, then quit college "until the war is over". I became a teacher and media specialist as an act of resistance to injustice. This led me to founding Activist San Diego and KNSJ, as I continue to resist the militarism and corporate control of society. I would like to head up a panel to speak about the lessons of the antiwar movement as well as bring forward the many local heroes who have dedicated their lives to promoting peace and ending the wars of empire from Korea, Vietnam and Latin America to Iraq & Afghanistan." Meet & Greet with PRC Board
Weds May 20th, from 6:30-8:30 pm
inside the Peace Resource Center
3850 Westgate Pl, San Diego 92105
There will be refreshments and you will have the chance to meet current Board members, get a feel for who we are and what we do, and find out more details about board responsibilities and upcoming work of the PRC. There will be a light "agenda," so we hope you can attend for the full time, though that's not required.
In November of this year, new Board Members will be appointed to the Board of Directors of the Peace Resource Center (PRC) and we are seeking nominations for a board position.
Since our founding in 1980, the PRC has become recognized as an effective voice for peace and like-minded people.We are seeking individuals that are passionate, willing to engage and connect with our efforts for peace, justice, and sustainability. The next several years promise to be exciting ones for the PRC. The organization will continue to have a positive impact on our membership and local communities. The Board of Directors plays a central role in this important work.
As you consider this opportunity, we ask you review these documents:
As you will see, we are expecting the board to be an active one. A primary responsibility of board members is to participate in the development of policy and major decision-making at board meetings held each month. Another key responsibility is to be active on an ongoing basis in a committee of the board.

Brandon Duncan and Aaron Harvey Coalition Against Penal Code 182.5/SD33
In June 2012, Victor Ortega was shot and killed by Officer Johnathan McCarthy. A U.S. District Judge has recently noted inconsistencies in some of the statements made by McCarthy, who claimed Victor tried to take away his service weapon. There is a further inconsistency around Officer McCarthy's use of a non-lethal Taser and the facts leading up to the struggle between McCarthy and Ortega. Victor Ortega was a loving father, husband, son, grandson,brother, nephew, cousin, and friend to many.
Brandon (Tiny Doo) Duncan and Aaron Harvey were two of 33 young black men recently arrested and charged with "conspiring" with gang members under CA Penal Code Sec. 182.5. This law makes a person who has been identified as a gang member by police (even if not a gang member, but falsely listed) or supports gangs (rap lyrics) responsible for any crime committed by a gang member. The injustice was so obvious that a San Diego judge dismissed the charges against Brandon and Aaron on March 15, but many others remain charged and in jail for crimes the D.A. knows they did not commit.
