SHOULD WE ABOLISH THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE?
University of California Professor Loren Collingwood researches and teaches American politics, with a special focus on campaigns, elections, and race and ethnic politics. He is currently completing a book on biracial electoral politics with a particular focus on the impact of demographic change.

He uses surveys, precinct and congressional district data, roll-call data, campaign advertising data, text data, and archival data as primary research vehicles. He has been published in American Politics ResearchPolitical Research Quarterly, Journal of Information Technology and Politics, the R JournalElectoral Studies, Presidential Studies Quarterly and other peer reviewed journals.

He regularly conducts polling, voter targeting, analysis for voting rights cases, big data machine learning, and other statistical routines for consulting and academic clients.

He received his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Washington in 2012. Prior to graduate school he was a researcher and analyst for Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, a Washington, D.C.-based political polling firm. He worked for the Carol Roberts congressional campaign in South Florida, the Campaign Finance Institute, and as an intern on Capitol Hill.

He is an active observer of real world politics and is committed to testing and evaluating how accurately academic theories in political science reflect the "on the ground" politics of campaigns.

Loren was born in Scotland to British and American parents, and grew up in Northern California.
