This event is open to the public.  It is co-sponsored by the City Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild and the TJSL Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild.

Free Speech, the Press, and Censorship in California Prisons and Jails

Please join us for a discussion about censorship in California prisons and jails with Eugene Iredale, Partner at Iredale and Yoo, APC, and Paul Wright, Editor of Prison Legal News (PLN) and Director of the Human Rights Defense Center (HRDC).

The panel will discuss the First amendment and Due Process rights of prisoners and the rights of media and non-prisoners to communicate with them. The discussion will focus on recent free speech lawsuits by Prison Legal News against the San Diego jail which resulted in a landmark ruling holding that the jail's ban on all letter mail except for postcards and oversize books was unconstitutional.

When?: Tuesday, February 9, 2016, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

Where?: Room 316, Thomas Jefferson School of Law, 1155 Island Ave, San Diego, CA 92101
