The presenters of these  events are coming from New York, Chicago and Oakland.  We are trying to pack the room so we can have more events of this caliber.

 

Also we will celebrate the life and legacy of Malcolm X on May 16 and 17 and we need your help

 

Dear Library Friends and Supporters:

 

We are holding a celebration of the life of Malcolm X (El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz) over the weekend of May 16-17, 2015. The Valencia Park/Malcolm X Branch Library is inviting the community to participate in this event, whether it's doing a performance/reading, a lecture/talk, doing something behind the scenes or simply volunteering wherever needed on the day of or the days before the event. If you would like to perform or talk at this event, please send a brief description of what you would like to do in an email to Jimmy Lovett at jlovett@sandiego.gov no later than Friday April 24^th. Performances/readings for children are also encouraged, so please note that when you send your email. If you would like to volunteer with set-up, coordinating, clean-up or in any other area, please email Melissa Martin at mmartin@sandiego.gov. Performers/speakers will be selected and notified on or shortly after May 5^th.

 

This event will be held on Sunday May 17^th from 2pm to 4pm. If enough proposals are received, there will also be a children's celebration on Saturday May 16 from 12pm to 2pm.
