I'm writing to urge you to vote YES on Propositions B & C, the Barrio Logan Plan, on Election Day, Tuesday, June 3.

Propositions B & C seek to fix inequalities in environmental justice in Barrio Logan.

Pledge to vote YES on Propositions B & C.

The San Diego ACLU doesn't often take such a public stand on local propositions. But there are some key civil liberties implications in the Barrio Logan neighborhood's fight to establish their vision for a healthy and prosperous community. We support propositions B & C because they seek to fix inequities in environmental justice that have fallen disproportionately on the people who live in Barrio Logan.

Stand for justice in Barrio Logan. Pledge to vote YES on Propositions B & C.

Barrio Logan created this plan, which was vetted and duly passed by the City Council last fall. It is now on the ballot because entrenched business interests were unhappy with that decision. The plan seeks to address the issues that have been caused by having an historic Latino neighborhood subsumed by the industrial needs of our city. Those issues include the need to create a buffer zone between homes and toxins and industrial pollutions, which results in disproportionately high rates of asthma among the children, who are three times more likely to have asthma-related ER visits than kids in the rest of the county.

I urge you to VOTE YES ON PROPS B & C, for a healthy future for Barrio Logan.
