Special SDCPJ Meeting: The Rise of the Private Prison Industry in the U.S.
Angela Garcia-Sims of the Social Justice Ministry Team, First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego will discuss how private prisons and their legislators are corrupting our democracy and promoting mass incarceration.
The United States imprisons more people than any other country by far. While comprising less than 5% of the world's population, our country holds nearly a quarter of the world's prison population. Private companies profiting from incarceration is a booming multi-billion dollar industry which has spent $22 million dollars lobbying Congress since 2001.
Please join the San Diego Coalition for Peace and Justice as we explore this important issue.
