Current TV is on Channel 251 Time Warner here
(City of San Diego/Scripps Ranch). I used to watch it and will resume doing so. They used to have short news/culture segments hosted by hip 20-somethings. But it's changed to about 6 (often repeated) programs of 30-90 minutes. Airing right now is "Cooking in the Danger Zone" (intrepid host cooks in war zones as viewers learn about cuisines/cultures around the world, today it's Thai/Burma border). Another show is "Kill It Cook It Eat It". And there's a serious news magazine show "Vanguard" and several law enforcement shows.
Perhaps with KO, CTV will add more news/politics.

It looks like Keith Olbermann will be on Current TV in a few weeks
Current TV is the cable channel started by Al Gore and is partially owned by Comcast (about 10%.) Unfortunately, it is not on very many non-Comcast cable systems and is not available in San Diego except maybe on satellite. It is on Time-Warner Los Angeles and New York but nowhere in between. It is not on Cox anywhere.
It seems strange that Olbermann leaves Comcast owned MSNBC for Comcast (partially) owned Current TV.
