The Take

Film Description:

In the wake of Argentina's dramatic economic collapse in 2001, Latin America's most prosperous middle class finds itself in a ghost town of abandoned factories and mass unemployment. Armed only with slingshots and an abiding faith in shopfloor democracy, Argentine workers face off against the bosses, bankers and a whole system that sees their beloved factories as nothing more than scrap metal for sale. All they want is to restart the silent machines, but this simple act The Take has the power to turn the globalization debate on its head.

This film documents a great case study in the power of working people’s ability to come together in the face of an economic crisis in order to change their lives and their communities for the better. This is definitely a timely film for our current economic situation. The Take gives an in depth example of the kind of worker run business that ASD Film Series’ last film, Capitalism Hits the Fan, left off suggesting as a possible way forward in this current economic crisis of Capitalism.
