Free Robin LongRobin Long is the first Active Duty GI Iraq War Resister to desert the U. S. Military and seek political asylum in Canada. He was later extradited and turned over to the United States Government for prosecution. Robin is currently being held in The Naval Consolidated Brig at MCAS Miramar here in San Diego and is serving a 15 month prison term for desertion.

The San Diego Chapters of Veterans For Peace, Iraq Veterans Against the War, Military Families Speak Out and the Vietnam Veterans Against the War have adopted Robin until he is freed in July 2009. To call attention to his case and to the plight of so many young Iraq War Resisters we will be holding a series of candle light vigil in front of the North Gate to MCAS Miramar on Miramar Road.

His statement to the Judge at his Court martial prior to imposing sentence, when asked to explain himself, was eloquent and to the point, “I believe my President lied to me.” That Robin, who has taken such a courageous stand on moral principles, would serve one day, let alone 15 months, in jail for refusing to deploy to Iraq in an illegal “preemptive”, criminal and morally bankrupt war is beyond belief. He is quite simply, a prisoner of conscience, while the architects and war profiteers of this murderous fraud remain free

With your help we will work to publicize his case and the cause of all War Resisters. In this effort we are holding the first in a series of monthly candle light vigils before Christmas day during the Holiday Season of “Peace on Earth.”
