[SDCPJ] Taxes: How to do something about it

Are you happy with a huge chunk of your federal taxes going to sustain what Eisenhower warned us against - the military industrial complex?  Some citizens go so far as to withhold that portion of their taxes, and the below tells you how to do that.  As an alternative, you can message the IRS and government while paying your taxes, or even separate from your tax filing, and the below tells you how to do that also.

We will never be the society we aspire to be, as long as the US continues its world-wide military empire for the profit of the very few.  Here's something you can do.

****************
It is tax season again…do you know where are your taxes being spent?
Consider filing your peace tax return with your federal taxes this year.

FACT:  Almost 50% of our federal budget is dedicated to war.

Dear Friends,

many of you know I am also a member of War Resisters & the National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee.

As part of our 2016 Days of War Tax Action, we are urging peace-minded tax payers to include the Peace Tax Return with their tax return this year to oppose the war budget.
I've attached the Return (you can also visit it online), and some information around why and how to "file" a peace tax return.

It is legal way of registering your opposition to endless war.

In peace,

Anne

Do our national priorities need to emphasize military investment over human needs?
US military spending dwarfs the combined spending of other countries.  And that war has come home in so many ways...
Where is our peace investment?

Support the movement to turn war taxes into peace dollars!*

1.     Print out the Peace Tax Return,
2.     follow the instructions, and
3.     either include it with your federal tax return this year or send it separately to your elected representatives.

NOTE:  Tax Day 2016 is April 18.  You must return your tax forms by this date.

How will you invest in peace?

.
*The Peace Tax Return is part of Days of War Tax Action 2016:  Invest in People; Divest From the Pentagon.

Black and Christian? Why Theists are Responsible for the Enslavement of People of Color...and everyone else.

Black and Christian? Why Theists are Responsible for the Enslavement of People of Color ....and everyone else.

By Walter Davis

Christianity has been used for thousands of years to control the feeble minded and primitive. See https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLb5MqQALYiD3RWX_tRhhH8mB4Jq006YsK

The concepts of an immaculate conception, crucifixion, death and resurrection have been used by rulers to control populations without a standing army. The first documented use of this "Bread and circuses" tactic comes to us from the ancient African empire of Axiom and it's capitol Luxor.

They believed in keeping people fed and entertained and then, they would stay in line. That is why you have dancing with the stars and high fructose laden ice cream. (high fructose turns off your body's ability to know you have had enough to eat, thus the explosion of obesity).

By promising a better after life, people were led away from realizing how miserable their current lives were (are) and focused on life, after death...thus...made calm with the current miasma.

Further, punishment was normalized.

This gave rulers the right to punish "evil" doers...people who did not follow the rules.

Compassion, love, ethics were replaced by false morality, execution, stoning, punishment, incarceration...injustice, slavery.

The southern states, with some of the most religious people in the nation and the most impoverished...are ruled by people who oppose universal healthcare, minimum wage, income equality, women's rights and fair voting regulations.

While trillions of dollars can be found for weapons and wars, no money is available for education, healthcare, housing and jobs.

The theists in this country are so arrogant, that if one expresses themselves as an anti theist, they assume that you do not believe in god, simply because one rejects their version of the creation of the universe.

Theists (people who believe that their version of religion is the only one and that they have the answers to how the universe was created)....cannot explain what is at the center of the earth, what a black hole is, what dark matter is or what dark energy is.

Yet, these same people, believe that the can tell others the origin of the universe.

They start and perpetuate wars based on their beliefs and cause the deaths of millions. That is why we must take an active role against these tithe robbing scoundrels. Their embracing of these primitive fairy tales is NOT an innocent pursuit of religious freedom.

This pursuit is the the force pushing man and woman kind to the brink of destruction as these people believe in Revelations and the end of the planet. Thus, anything that is getting worse is justified because the bible talked about it in the end times.

Politicians are making policy based on these fables, thus the unwavering support of Israel in the face of gross human rights violations, genocide and murder. The bible tell us that the end of the world will come when all the armies of the world converge on Israel. That is why many sick politicians are making policy to make the armies converge...so they can see Jesus.

Sick, ignorant black people believe in this fable. The leaders in our communities have Rev. as a title in front of their names. Hence, the slow to no progress in black communities. Black communities are still shackled by the same mentality that resulted in American slavery, Jim Crow and the loss of ancestral lands in Africa. Presented with the story of the Jewish zombie and given pieces of cloth, mirrors, glass and beads, they abandoned their ancient spiritual beliefs and embraced those of the likes of King Leopold of the Netherlands. http://www.amazon.com/500-years-European-behavior-African/dp/1564111040/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1459280098&sr=1-1&keywords=500+years+of+european+behavior

and

This resulted in the rise of companies like Hunts, Welch's Grape Juice, Firestone Tires (they robbed and are robbing the rubber from the Congo),  ...and..since Americans do not read, they do not know this. Our corrupt education system does not educate us or teach us to think.

So these sick and corrupt ministers lead our communities into compliance, subjugation, turning the other cheek and a belief that praying (and doing nothing) is going to work. This is about as wise as the leaders who sent troops to fight the British army putting up bamboo shields against steel bayonets and lead bullets.

We do not have discussions about critical thinking, fallacies, errors in judgment (the bible tells us not to use judgment, that it is wrong...."Judge not, least ye be judged")...but, we do discuss the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, Halloween costumes, get drunk on St. Patrick's Day, poison our love ones with high fructose laden candy on St. Valentines Day (and our kids on Halloween).

Few Christians know about the Treaty of  Nicea and who wrote it or, who actually wrote the bible. This despite the fact that their lives are revolving around this.

This treaty sets the day Christmas falls on, Easter and all the other made up holidays.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Nicaea

Christians do not realize that their hanging the ball on the Christmas tree actually comes from the same tradition as Dracula.

The Teutonic people believed that evergreen trees were gods because they did not turn brown in the winter. They prayed to the evergreen trees and put them up in squares and in their homes. They hung their enemies' heads on these trees when they defeated them in battle..hence, hanging the red ball on the Christmas tree.

One of their leaders, Dracula, would come along and impale his victims through the genitals on the sharp stumps left after the evergreen trees were harvested. The real Dracula was an impaler, not a vampire.

Christians in American believe that they are better than Muslims, but, they have a shared history and origin. Christians have led crusades, Muslims, jihad. No difference, just means killing those who differ in beliefs. They are equally sick.

Are the people in Iran, Iraq, Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Palestine, Gaza, Morocco, Guatemala, Venezuela, Puerto Rico or any where...better off after American meddling and regime change operations by the CIA and other agencies?

Joseph Atwill has an excellent series of movies and books that show that the bible is simply a Roman story, made up to keep us all in our place, without the use of a standing army.

Gays took up prominent roles in helping the black community in it's struggle for civil rights (writing the I have a dream speech, arranging for the location in Washington, DC)..yet in THEIR struggle for equality, the brainwashed, homophobic black christian community is no where to be found.

Alliances with Muslims are not being formed. Instead, Blacks remain on the sideline as our brothers and sisters from The Middle East and of Middle Eastern descent are victimized by the likes of Donald Trump, his thugs and other ignorant mobs.

Ronald Reagan, praised as a hero is responsible for the high incarceration rate, media black outs, media monopolies and the destruction of the American Dream.

So, I ask you: is faith over reasoning, judgment and facts, a wise thing?

I would rather be a Democratic Socialist than a Capitalistic Sociolpath.

Why We have a Media Blackout

News_Media.jpg
Coffee Party USA (CP) News Room Chair placed a story in our News Room that touched a nerve. She was concerned that some people on the CP Facebook page had a Bernie Sanders bias. It is a Common Dreams article by John Atcheson, the author of the novel "A Being Darkly Wise."  The article is titled "What the Ex-Pat Primary Tells Us About the Bernie Blackout." Atcheson writes the following towards the end of the article.
Now, about that ex pat primary; It included Americans living abroad all over the world. They voted overwhelmingly for Sanders – 69% for him, 31% for Clinton. This may well tell us something about the effect of the Bernieblackout.
While here in the US, the media and the rest of the Establishment either ignores or discounts Sanders, he’s covered as he should be overseas – as a serious contender with mainstream policies that appeal to the majority of Americans. Yes, that’s right, on an issue-by-issue basis most Americans agree with Bernie on the major policy choices facing us today.
So the lesson is, Bernie is right – we need a revolution. One that not only gets money out of politics, but one that seizes the fourth estate back from the clutches of the Oligarchy.
The reality is that many of the posters are mitigating the media's dereliction of their duty as noted by Atcheson. The media failure is two fold. Bernie Sanders does not get his deserved coverage because his policies are anathema to the plutocracy and by inference the traditional mainstream media. The corporate masters and their figureheads attempt to control Sanders' exposure which would likely increase his electability.
A caller to my Politics Done Right show provided an additional explanation for the sorry state of our news. He stated that the editorial department that used to decide what stories were prioritized based on societal need is now done in effect by a marketing department. Most of us understood that for some time. However having a newspaper reporter, an insider call in was very important. Listen to what he had to say in the video in this post.

[SDCPJ] Sat 4/9: RJ - What it is & Why it Matters

Restorative Justice: What it is and Why it matters

Sat, April 9th, 2016, from 10am-12noon
@ PRC inside Friends Center building
on the Peace Campus, 3850 Westgate Pl, 92105

Refreshments provided. Donations appreciated.

We know that our criminal justice system is not serving us well. State budgets for education have steadily decreased while funds for prisons increase. We are incarcerating minorities at an alarming rate, often for nonviolent offenses. With their zero tolerance policies, schools are calling on police to arrest children for behaviors that would have meant a visit to the principal's office in decades past.

One solution is Restorative Justice.

But what is it? How does it work? And what makes it better than what we currently do? As an advocate for social justice, what can you tell people about it?

Advocating for peaceful and just solutions in our own communities requires us to be informed... Join us for a closer look at "RJ" and its proactive sister, Restorative Practices.

[SDCPJ] Report: Ecological Impacts of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Accidents 5 Years Later

"What started as a natural disaster, turned into one of the worst industrial accidents in human history and a reminder that humanity must urgently turn its efforts towards safe, clean renewables." — Junichi Sato, Executive Director of Greenpeace Japan.

"Those responsible, in particular TEPCO and the Japanese government, must be held to account for this manmade disaster and prioritise public safety and the environment as they struggle to deal with the ongoing crisis at the plant and in Fukushima prefecture. Today's shutdown of the Takahama unit 3 reactor following a historic ruling by a court on 9 March is a signal that nuclear power has no future in Japan," —Shaun Burnie, senior nuclear specialist with Greenpeace Germany.

" ... The Fukushima disaster is the single largest release of radioactivity into the ocean and one of only two Level 7 nuclear disasters in world history - the other being Chernobyl. Evidence of the effects of radiation on the natural environment are already becoming apparent, ranging from DNA-damaged wildlife, to mutations in trees."

[SDCPJ] Fwd: STAND WITH THE MARSHALL ISLANDS - NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT HEROES!

Sent from my iPad

Begin forwarded message:

From: Jackie Cabasso <wslf@earthlink.net>
Date: March 6, 2016, 12:56:16 PM
Subject: STAND WITH THE MARSHALL ISLANDS - NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT HEROES!
Reply-To: wslf@earthlink.net

From 1948 – 1956 the United States detonated 67 nuclear weapons test explosions over the Marshall Islands, a tiny nation in the South Pacific. During this period, the equivalent of 1.7 Hiroshima-sized bombs were detonated daily. Several islands were vaporized, others will remain uninhabitable for thousands of years. Many Marshallese died, babies were born with birth defects never seen before, and residents of the islands are still battling with cancers and other radation related diseases.

From March 7 – 16 the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, the judicial branch of the United Nations, will hear oral arguments in the Marshall Islands' cases against the UK, India and Pakistan.* The cases concern whether the UK is complying with Article VI of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, and whether India and Pakistan are complying with what the Marshall Islands contends, building on the 1996 ICJ opinion, is a customary international law obligation to pursue negotiations in good faith on nuclear disarmament, including cessation of the nuclear arms race.

Tony DeBrum, former Foreign Minister of the Marshall Islands will be making opening statements on behalf of the Marshall Islands on Monday and Tuesday.

These hearings concern preliminary issues as to whether the cases are suitable for adjudication on the merits. While the cases will concern preliminary issues, the substance of the cases will certainly come up in various ways.

I will be in The Hague, working with Rick Wayman of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation to support the Marshall Islands by doing media outreach and social media. Here's how you can follow the hearings from wherever you are.

·        Sign up to receive Rick's daily updates: https://www.wagingpeace.org/sign-up-to-get-daily-email-updates-from-the-hague/

·        Follow me on Twitter @JackieCabasso and retweet. I'll be live tweeting, using the hashtag #NuclearZero

·        Like and share my Facebook posts at https://www.facebook.com/WesternStatesLegalFoundation/

·         Watch the hearings for yourself. Video webcasts will broadcast live and posted on the International Court of Justice website at: www.icj-cij.org/multimedia

·        Read the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation's March 2 press release at https://www.wagingpeace.org/oral-hearings-on-the-marshall-islands-nuclear-disarmament-cases-to-begin-at-the-international-court-of-justice.

·        For more information about the cases see www.nuclearzero.org.

If you're in nearby Europe, please consider coming to The Hague to support the Marshall Islands by your presence in the courtroom. Three press releases issued by the ICJ (one for each of the cases) provide the hearing schedule and admission procedures to the court. There is no advance registration procedure.

·        Marshall Islands v. United Kingdom http://www.icj-cij.org/docket/files/160/18888.pdf

·        Marshall Islands v. Pakistan http://www.icj-cij.org/docket/files/159/18886.pdf

·        Marshall Islands v. India http://www.icj-cij.org/docket/files/158/18884.pdf

Please help spread the word
. WE STAND WITH THE MARSHALL ISLANDS: NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT HEROES!

*You may be wondering why only three cases only are going forward. In April 2014 the Marshall Islands filed lawsuits against all 9 nuclear-armed states. Regrettably, the United States, Russia, China, France, Israel and North Korea do not accept the compulsory jurisdiction of the ICJ and are ignoring the cases brought against them.
