[SDCPJ] Fwd: Guest Speakers at "Amish Project" play

Join the Peace Resource Center along with the Brethren, Quaker, and Mennonite Communities at The Amish Project on Friday, October 11, 2013:

Mo`olelo Performing Arts Company presents

The Amish Project

By Jessica Dickey
Directed by Delicia Turner Sonnenberg

As violence in our nation reaches an all-time high with mass shootings becoming an all-too-familiar way of life, there couldn't be a more appropriate time to explore the issue of school violence than with a compelling piece of theatre.  That compelling piece of theatre is "The Amish Project" and the time to experience it is now.  By turns touching and tragic, playwright Jessica Dickey has crafted a beautiful and thought-provoking play about the 2006 Nickel Mines shooting in a one-room Amish schoolhouse.  As we meet the play's seven fictional characters who bring the grief, fear, humor, innocence, and hope of this tragic event to life, we are compelled to ask ourselves the question: when caught at the crossroads of sorrow, rage, and forgiveness, which path do we take?

And stay for a FREE Post-show Discussion:

The Challenge of Nonviolence

Imagine a moment in life when violence shatters your world and every part of your being wants to retaliate with vengeance. How could you possibly untangle this dilemma in a positive way and realize a compassionate, nonviolent approach? How might a whole community grapple with the complexities? What resources are available to assist, advocate, and empower society during these struggles? Join a panel of three representatives from the Peace Campus in City Heights (Church of the Brethren, Quakers, and Peace Resource Center) for a discussion that reveals both the challenges and the power of nonviolence.

Tickets are $15 per person.

RSVP to Mariah Gayler at mariah@prcsd.org or 619-263-9301 by Friday, October 4, 2013.

Seating is limited.  $15 tickets valid for advance purchases only.  Standard rates apply for door sales.
